Oil Thermostats - Components for Screw Compressor Systems

Oil Thermostats

Operation:

This oil thermostat is used in screw compressor systems for temperature-dependent oil flow control.

Technical data:

  • Capacity range ca.: 30 kW (40 hp)
  • Max. operating pressure: 18 bar (256 psig)
  • Max. operating temperature: 100 °C (212 °F)
  • Connector thread: G ½'' / Ø 15 L

Materials:

Casing: aluminium
Thermostatic element: brass

Function:

During a cold start, the thermostatic valve transmits oil from the oil separator directly back to the compressor via the oil filter, bypassing the oil cooler.

When the oil temperature exceeds the value stamped on the oil thermostat (Standard 70 °C / 158°F), the control process begins, and part of the oil flow passes through the cooler. When the oil temperature reaches a value about 15° higher, the oil valve closes completely (sliding sleeve in the forward position) and all the oil passes through the cooler.

The oil thermostat maintains constant lubricating oil temperature and viscosity.

A further function of the oil thermostat is to prevent condensation in the system by ensuring that the optimal operating temperature is reached rapidly and then maintained.
