Cooling System
During compression in the individual compressor stages, gases and gaseous mixtures (e.g. air, helium) emit heat, which must be dissipated by inter and after-coolers.
As a matter of principle, BAUER's diving compressors employ air coolers. A fan wheel, connected to the crank shaft, blows a stream of air at the cylinder heads and cooler tubing. Please observe the compressor's recommended direction of rotation. A fan shroud is installed for your protection. Furthermore, the shroud channels the airflow to the 'hot spots' and prevents overheating. Hence, the compressor should not be operated without the shroud. BAUER compressors are designed to operate in a temperature range from +5 °C to +40 °C. The final separator and other temperature sensitive parts are tested and approved for these conditions only. Beyond that range, components may malfunction.
Good ventilation is of key importance when choosing the compressor's location - especially if ambient temperatures are high. The cooling air stream must circulate freely. Good ventilation will not only prevent overheating, but extends the filter lifetime (see » filtration) and quality of separation.
BAUER has over sixty years of experience in the manufacture of air-cooled compressors. The BAUER compressor design, which incorporates generously proportioned coolers, prevents compressor stages from overheating. Air outlet temperature exceeds the ambient temperature by merely 10 - 20 °C.
Pipe coolers and cylinder heads are placed side by side for optimal airflow. The heavy-duty axial fan maximises the volume stream. Furthermore, the cylinder heads' large surface enhances the unit's cooling characteristics.
Intensive cooling keeps the temperature of the compressed air down to a minimum and thereby reduces valve plate wear.
After each compressor stage, the compressed gas is cooled down to 5 - 15 °C above ambient temperature.
