Filling by Means of Storage Cylinders
Frequently, cylinders are replenished using storage cylinders, which have been filled in advance. The full storage cylinder and the empty recipient cylinder are connected using a high pressure tube (please note that these tubes require annual inspection). The storage cylinder's valve is opened fully. Thereafter, open the recipient cylinder's valve slowly. This procedure prevents damage to the valves and sinter filters. Pressure equalises rather slowly since the expanding gas in the storage cylinder cools off during the filling process. Concurrently, the recipient cylinder cools down near the valve and heats up lower down. Identical pressures require identical temperatures.
If several storage or recipient cylinders are being filled, the bottles with the least pressure differential are connected.
Example:
Storage cylinder: 50 litres at 200 bar
Recipient cylinder: 10 litres at 20 bar

50 litres × 200 bar |

Content of the recipient cylinder: |
